This is my ideal for America: a negative-rights republic with a hard criminal code, net-taxpayer franchise, assimilation and values filters, ranked-choice democracy, and a thin state on tax and markets. It is a destination I am stating, not a poll of what is popular.
I am not naive enough to think that ideal will ever actually be reached. It will never happen. These are ideals. Voting for and supporting things in that realm — and getting closer — is enough. Directionally aligned enough to move toward it is good. That is life.
Going full libertarian tomorrow would ignore the country we actually have — the same kind of utopia as socialist utopia, just pointed the other way: “live and let live” while counting on people to do good. Negative rights stay the threshold. Full libertarianism is not what I push as next-step policy.
The path we are on does not get closer to that republic. So I favor harder, more directionally aligned moves now — including conservative-leaning enforcement, borders, and forfeiture — because they close distance to the ideal. They are not the ideal itself.
Supporting parties or policies is a cost analysis. They are not fully perfect and not fully inside this framework. When a side is directionally aligned on major points — such as anti-crime and harsh on crime, anti-immigration, pro-assimilation, and against trans policies — I will support them.
